They never had a degree in law
Yet they think they know all about justice, and act instantly, just because they’re a mob.
God!
I thought you said in your laws
That lives of our fellows shouldn’t be robbed
But how come there is a change in the law…
Without a general notice.
This Instance justice.
The laws of nature may be violated because no one may know nature,
But what happened to the laws of our land and forefathers?
What happened to article 15, and
The criminal and Other Offences act, 1960, Act 29 section 46 of our constitution?
I fully agree with Daniel Korang in his words:
‘Mob action is an embarrassment to our democracy. It casts an ugly slur on our national identity’
We are people noted for hospitality, religiousness and democracy
Yet, we take our fellows’ lives without being given the audacity.
What is our home becoming?
You see cameras on roll as if it’s a movie shoot
Just to upload videos on facebook and YouTube
To make the world know that they were witnesses
But will never get the hint to call the police.
Should it be blamed on religion, the school or the society?
I think a new disease is discovered – social media madness.
The World Health Organisation should consider some research in these areas.
Why should it be that, people opt to take pictures of a man being lynched, while 911 is just a few seconds affair?
Then afterwards, a list of people against mob action is passed on Whatsapp, for more followers and views and popularity that can’t bring back the dead.
Killing a supposed criminal doesn’t make you more righteous.
Just remember the chobo from the contract, the coins you took from your mum and the money you saw on the floor and saved in your pocket.
Just because you weren’t caught…
May the law be made known with more clarity
That no human has the right to take another’s life or dignity
Whether a soldier or a robber.
Whether it’s a wretched boy with no home who looks like or is actually a thief.
Whether a victim of force alarm in the market or slum.
Or a pick-pocket caught red handed.
You can always defend yourself and leave the rest to the law.
R. I. P. to those killed by the mob.
